DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT — The Apatosaurus standing guard near the entrance of Dinosaur National Monument is looking sharp for the park's 100th anniversary.

The dinosaur received a fresh coat of paint Friday thanks the the Intermountain Natural History Association, which is a nonprofit that runs bookstores to provide visitors to various parks with educational materials. The Apatosaurus sits in front of one of the organization's buildings.

Thirty-eight volunteers of all ages from two local companies — SWCA Environmental Consultants and CRS Engineers — pitched in to do the painting. SWCA also donated $500 to help cover the cost of paint.

"It was fun," said INHA executive director Richard Millett. "We let all of the kids, no matter how old they were, get a paintbrush and work on the legs. They had a good time."

The Apatosaurus, which has been around for decades, was painted to be the same color as one of the dinosaurs in the mural at DNM, according to Millett.
