SALT LAKE CITY — Summertime is a time where most children spend their days carefree with no school, lots of sun and lots of laughter, but 14-year-old Blessing isn't like most.

Sure, she loves to have a good time, to "just be a teenager and hang out with my friends," she says.

She even knows she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up, but it's what she's doing now that sets her apart.

"With a family it's easier to say, 'Oh, that's my mom and dad,' " she said. "It's hard to say, 'Oh, that's my guardian or foster parent.' "

She's had to say that a lot lately, because a few months ago Blessing entered the Utah foster care system.

"It takes some getting used to," she said.

Fortunately, Blessing is not alone. Her younger brother, 11-year-old Prosper, is always nearby.

"My bother means a whole lot to me," she said. "I want him to have a better future."

To have that better future, these siblings are determined to be adopted into one family and always stay together. It's been like that from the beginning.

"We lived with our biological mom in Africa, so that's where we're originally from, and then we moved over here to the United States," she said.

A family adopted them but it didn't work out, and now they're hopeful it still can.

"It's like a roller coaster, up and down," she said. "One day may be super good but then the other day may be really bad."

They want to tell their future family one thing:

"If you're out there, come get us."
