Former BYU receiver Cody Hoffman played in the second game of his Canadian Football League career Friday night against the Calgary Stampeders.
The Montreal receiver made better use of it than his first outing.
After going catch-less a game before, Hoffman caught three passes for 48 yards, including the first touchdown of his CFL career, to help the Montreal Alouettes dispatch Calgary, 29-11, for its first win of 2015.
Hoffman’s touchdown, a slant pass over the middle of the field that he walked into the endzone, highlighted a stellar night for Montreal quarterback Rakeem Cato. The former Marshal signal caller completed 20-of-25 passes for 241 yards and three scores, and threw his third career touchdown pass to Hoffman with 7:15 remaining in the third quarter.
The all-time leading receiver in BYU history, Hoffman signed a two-year contract with the Alouettes in February after Washington cut him at the start of the NFL regular season last year. Hoffman played in two preseason games with the Redskins.
Former BYU wide receiver Austin Collie makes his CFL season debut Saturday with the BC Lions.
Montreal next heads to Winnipeg for another Friday night showdown on July 10.
