ST. GEORGE — A St. George man was charged Wednesday with multiple counts of rape of a child.

Mason Todd Burton, 22, of St. George, was charged in 5th District Court with three counts of rape of a child, a first-degree felony, and three counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

Burton is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl he was acquainted with on three different occasions at a residence in St. George between February and March of 2014, according to a probable cause statement. Burton was 21 at the time.

Burton was booked into the Washington County Jail on Wednesday for violating a 2013 plea in abeyance on a minor traffic violation, according to court records. He was officially arrested for the rape charges four hours later while already incarcerated.

"Mason refused to talk about the incidents at this time," the arresting officer wrote in his report.

Bail was set at $75,000.
