ROY — Fire damaged a business in Roy Tuesday morning.
When crews arrived at the Oriental Market at 1788 W. 5300 South around 4:30 a.m., their first priority was to make sure the building was not occupied.
"We were unsure at the time, but once we got here we made that call that there was nobody inside," said Capt. Chase Stark of the Roy City Fire Department. "We had a quick check of the building and found it to be vacant. We had heavy smoke coming out of the attic so at that point we weren't risking any firefighters' lives."
The fire produced very thick smoke in the area, prompting crews to evacuate buildings to the south and the west.
Firefighters contained the fire itself to one building. However, there are two businesses inside that building, which they call a total loss.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
No injuries were reported.
