Editors note: The Jimmy Johns at this location re-opened for business on Friday, June 12.SALT LAKE CITY — The Jimmy Johns located on 605 E. and 400 S. has shutdown due to health code violations, according to a spokesperson with the Salt Lake County Health Department.
Overall, the facility was charged with five critical violations and eight non-critical violations of the health code.
Twelve people have gotten sick because of the health code violations, said the spokesperson.
One critical violation entailed, “an employee not washing his hands when changing gloves.” Another critical violation cited was the facility being “closed due to ongoing illness connected to the facility,” according to the health department.
Several other violations included in the report: "The mop is not hung to air dry”, "food is being stored on the floor," and "fresh bread is being stored on the dirty dish drain board."
Darin Orton, owner of the franchise, issued this statement:
"The health and safety of my customers and employees is a top priority and commitment I take seriously. At this time, we are cooperating fully with local health officials."
