TOOELE — Crews restored power to Tooele residents Wednesday morning after a vehicle sheared off a power pole, knocking out electric service.

A driver told police the brakes on his vehicle failed as he tried to negotiate the intersection of Emerald Road and Utah Avenue, according to Sgt. Don Nelson of the Tooele Police Department.

The vehicle hit a power pole, shearing it at the base.

The pole was down in the road, and a live power line remained about six feet from the ground, Nelson said. Rocky Mountain Power customers on the southwest end of town, in the 84074 zip code, lost power. Crews restored it by 8:45 a.m.

Three people inside the vehicle were not injured.

Police closed 1100 West on Utah Avenue to where it connects at SR112.
