CEDAR CITY — A man died after falling between 20 and 30 feet while rock climbing with friends Monday, police said.

The 19-year-old man was climbing a mountainside near state Route 14, Cedar City police said in a prepared statement. He reportedly suffered a head injury and broken bones.

The man's name wasn't released Monday night, pending notification of family members. He was reportedly rock climbing with two friends at the time of the fall.

Search and rescue crews from Iron County responded to the mountainside and attempted to resuscitate the man, but he died before he could be airlifted from the area.

The area where the man fell is just outside the city and is a "popular destination for rock climbers," Cedar City police said.
