FARR WEST, Weber County — Two teenage siblings were taken into custody after vandalizing a church and city bridge in Farr West, investigators said.
Church leaders discovered the graffiti when they arrived at the building Sunday morning, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. Lt. Lane Findlay said the siblings, a 15-year-old sister and 13-year-old brother, caused extensive damage to the building, which belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“There was a lot of derogatory comments towards the LDS church and a lot of satanic stuff,” he said. “It was all over the building — on the brick, the doors, the windows. It was pretty bad.”
Investigators received a tip that led them to the siblings, who confessed they were the ones who tagged the church and a nearby city bridge, according to Findlay. He said they were booked into the Weber Valley Detention Center for investigation of felony criminal mischief.
“We were just fortunate I think to be able to identify them and get them charged, because a lot of times what you see is once kids start doing this kind of stuff, unless they get caught, it tends to continue,” he said.
