DUCHESNE — A distracted driver at the wheel of a tractor-trailer truck caused a head-on crash Friday that sent a woman to the hospital, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 1:00 p.m. Friday when drivers traveling east on U.S. 40 slowed down for a pickup truck that was making a right turn west of Duchesne, UHP Lt. Beau Mason said.

The driver of a Basin Wholesale West tractor-trailer truck "was distracted and failed to slow down enough to avoid the slower moving traffic," said Mason, who did not identify what distracted the driver.

The truck driver clipped the back of an eastbound Chrysler 300 as he veered into the westbound lane, then hit a Toyota Corolla head-on, the lieutenant said.

The driver of the Toyota, a 50-year-old woman, was taken to Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Mason said. No other injuries were reported, said Mason, who added that everyone had their seat belt on.

The truck driver was issued a citation, the lieutenant said. The highway was closed for a short time while medical crews treated the driver of the Toyota.
