HURRICANE — A man and woman were arrested Tuesday for allegedly possessing drugs with the intent to distribute.
Officers conducted a traffic stop for improper lane travel on a vehicle at about 10:50 p.m., according to Hurricane police Sgt. Brandon Buell. He said the odor of a controlled substance was detected and a K9 alerted on the vehicle.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Buell said officers located an electronic scale and drug paraphernalia that appeared to have a marijuana residue on it. They also found plastic wrap “that was in a manner that indicated it was being used for distributing a white, powder substance.” Investigators said they believe the white residue was methamphetamine.
“An arrest was made and then both those involved were searched and items were found on them that were consistent with illegal drugs,” he said.
William Elton Toone and Amy Jayne Palmer-Lane were arrested for investigation of drug possession with the intent to distribute, drug possession and possession of drugs within a jail, according to police. They were both booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility.
Buell said alleged drug paraphernalia was also found hidden on them when they were brouht into the jail.
