TOOELE — A woman died Wednesday in a crash on state Route 201 and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper was injured while responding to the scene.
The initial crash occurred about 7 p.m. on an on-ramp leading to I-80 at the Magna and West Valley City exit, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.
The woman who died was driving a small sedan when she lost control of her vehicle due to slick weather conditions, said UHP Lt. Mike Loveland. The sedan struck a guard rail and then stalled, Loveland said, and an SUV traveling in the same route rear-ended the woman. She was killed at the scene.
The name and age of the woman were not immediately released.
A UHP trooper who responded to the crash was hit and pinned inside her car for a time. She suffered minor injuries.
The roads in the area were snow packed and slick. The adverse weather played a role in the crash, according to Loveland.
Troopers expected to remain at the scene of the crash until about midnight.
More details will be reported as they become available.
