OREM — For fans who can’t get enough of the Bored Shorts videos, the team’s recent Kickstarter campaign will be of interest. It's creating a game called Kid History and it incorporates the same zaniness that has made the videos so successful.

If you’ve watched any of the YouTube videos created by the Bored Shorts TV team, you’re probably familiar with their brand of humor based on the silly things kids say. With popular video series like Kid History and Kid Snippets, they’ve attracted a loyal following of more than 204,000 subscribers. According to Richard Sharrah, one of the creators, the videos have over 120 million views total.

Bored Shorts TV producer Ryan Haldeman said the team originally planned to make a game that was a mix of Bingo and Candy Land. But as the team developed the idea, it realized its game should “create the same sort of experience we have when we're filming kids and they say hilarious stuff.”

As described on the game’s Kickstarter page, the game begins with each player being dealt cards that have real kid quotes on them. One player is designated the “historian” and plays a card that sets the stage for a famous quote from history, except the actual quote is left out. The other players then pick their funniest quote card to match the event and the historian chooses the best. So the Gettysburg Address could begin with the words “Beware the wicked tomato!” Or when Neil Armstrong sets foot on the moon he might announce, “I’m the princess of the America of the States!”

The Bored Shorts TV team came up with fun rewards for those who contribute to the Kid History game. For example, those who pledge $75 or more can actually have their own kid’s quotes included on cards in the game. And hardcore fans who pledge larger amounts can even get a lead role in an upcoming Kid Snippets video.

Dave Roberts, who has helped create the game, said it’s been fun to see how excited their fans have gotten for the game. Even before the campaign began on Kickstarter, they had more than 100 fans ready to purchase the game.

The Kid History game is actually part of the brand’s evolution and may be followed by future games, according to team member Brett Roberts. “Our mission is to become a recognizable brand of family friendly entertainment,” he said. “We feel like we are doing a pretty good job with your YouTube videos, and now this game is our first step in broadening that scope.”
