MOAB — A Millbank, South Dakota woman who was pinned under the ATV she was driving on the Hell’s Revenge Trail on Monday afternoon has died, officials said.

Karen Johnson, 63, was driving on the trail, which is part of the Sand Flats Recreation Area, just east of Moab when she tried “to climb an obstacle” called the “Hot Tubs” and the ATV rolled on top of her, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received the call at 1:51 p.m. and responded to the scene along with EMS, Search and Rescue and a medical helicopter, police said.

Johnson, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Moab Regional Hospital by a medical helicopter. Johnson died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the accident, police said.

Johnson was traveling in a private group on the trail, which is “the most popular 4-wheel drive trail in the Moab area,” police said.
