RIVERTON — The man caught on camera punching a key code into a family’s door did so by mistake, police said Monday.
The Unified Police Department asked for help Saturday to identify the man after a family sent them video of him attempting to use their doorknob keypad. However, police said, after receiving tips from the public, they spoke with the man in the video and determined he was a painter given the wrong address for a job.
“At the correct address, there was a keypad on a lock box to access the house,” a police statement said. “This is why this person pushed the buttons on this keypad, thinking it was the correct address. We have verified the story with this gentleman's employer, and the person who hired him to do the job.”
Police thanked the public for their help.
