SANDY — A man died in a motorcycle crash late Friday under the I-15 overpass on 9000 South, police said.

Rohn McNeely, 53, was driving a motorcycle with an adult female passenger eastbound on 9000 South at the intersection of 275 West, said Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger.

When McNeely drove through the intersection on the red light after the left turn arrow for eastbound traffic turned green, he was struck by a westbound truck that was turning left to merge onto southbound I-15 about 10:10 p.m, according to Carriger.

McNeely and his female passenger were thrown from the motorcycle upon impact, and McNeely was then run over by an eastbound SUV driving behind him, Carriger said.

McNeely was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition, Carriger said.

No injuries to occupants in the truck or SUV were reported. Carriger said investigation of the crash is ongoing, but there were no indications that alcohol or drugs were involved.

The northbound I-15 off-ramp off ramp to go west, the southbound off-ramp to go east and eastbound 9000 South were all closed due to the crash Friday night, Carriger and the Utah Department of Transportation reported.
