WEST POINT — Following a multi-agency search, a man suspected in a fatal overnight shooting at a West Point home, identified by police as Jory Fenstermaker, was arrested in Farmington on suspicion of criminal homicide after turning himself in Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to a call from the home near 900 North and 3200 West around 12:30 Sunday morning, where they found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the torso, according to Davis County Sheriff Sgt. Dee Ann Servey. He was taken to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition, and passed away upon arrival, according to Davis County Sheriff Todd Richardson.

The shooting was the result of a fight between the victim and another man — the ex-boyfriend and current boyfriend of the woman who lived at the home, according to the sheriff’s office. The woman was present when the fight broke out.

“The two individuals had gotten into a verbal argument that escalated when one of the males pulled out and shot the other in the torso,” Servey said.

The shooter took off on foot, prompting a detailed search involving the Davis County Sheriff’s Department and other area agencies.

“We also conducted a reverse 911 call using our mobile alert system to let the residents in that area know that we were looking for a suspect and to make sure that their doors were locked and to stay inside,” Servey said.

Around 6 a.m., investigators received a tip that the 21-year-old suspect was no longer in the area. Both the victim and the suspect had criminal records.

“We are familiar with both of the individuals involved,” Servey said.

Investigators said alcohol was a factor in the shooting.
