WEST VALLEY CITY — A 42-year-old woman is in critical condition after allegedly jumping out of a moving vehicle onto Bangerter Highway Friday evening.
The woman and her husband had gotten into an argument at about 9:40 p.m. as they were traveling southbound at about 50 miles per hour on the highway, according to Lt. Dalan Taylor with the West Valley City Police Department.
The wife told her husband she was getting out of the car and she started to open the door. Her husband reached over and grabbed her, hanging on to her as he slowed the vehicle, Taylor said.
Just as the vehicle was coming to a stop, she jumped into the next lane and a car coming down that lane hit her, Taylor said.
The woman was transported by ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition. Investigators are currently going through information from witnesses and putting everything together, Taylor said.
The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured and was going the speed limit when the car hit the woman near 4650 South. Currently neither driver was cited, but "that could change pending the result of the investigation," Taylor said.
Police closed southbound Bangerter traffic between 4100 South and 4700 South. The Utah Department of Transportation advised motorists to use alternate routes late Friday.
