The year 2013 was passing by quickly and Jose Callejas was serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Villahermosa Mexico Mission.
Callejas spent his time pondering the future of the people he was teaching, not his own academic opportunities or how he’d pay for college. Callejas had one goal for his future education – to take what he was learning on his mission and apply it to college to better prepare for a career.
Upon completing his missionary service, Callejas enrolled at LDS Business College in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. To his surprise he had a half tuition scholarship given to him his first semester. “It was a big relief to have half of my first semester's tuition paid for with the scholarship I received. I see it as a blessing for serving a full-time mission for the Lord. My sister and I are about the same age so we are going to college at the same time. A hard financial burden for my father to undertake,” said Callejas.

A job at the college and an internship with a local business keeps Callejas busy. He does, however, recognize his good fortune and said, “My scholarship allows me to focus more on my schoolwork. When preparing for my career every little bit counts, and that little bit can make a huge difference.”
He is seeking a Professional Sales degree and is excited to see what the future holds.
LDS Business College has been nothing short of a dream for him. A mission changed his desires and focus toward academics. His half tuition scholarship has only helped the cause. The LeGrand Richards Service Scholarship covers one-half tuition for the first semester and is offered to returned missionaries who apply and attend within one year of their honorable release date.
For Callejas, jumping into school upon returning from his mission is something that he’ll never regret. Now he’s arming himself with the tools he’ll need to be successful in the business world.
