Spring is fast approaching, which means that construction season is just around the corner. The Utah Department of Transportation, commonly referred to as UDOT, just released its top projects for 2015.
More than 180 construction projects will be hitting Utah roads this spring and summer, and 15 could have a big impact on Utah motorists. Projects range from filling potholes to major improvements on I-15 like The Point Project.
Major construction projects along I-15 can mean congestion and delays for commuters. While plans are in place to keep traffic flowing as much as possible, drivers who don't adjust how they travel should expect delays.
In order to minimize traffic delays during construction, UDOT is asking commuters to "Rethink Your Commute" by using these TravelWise strategies.
Adjust your schedule
Skip rush hour altogether by adjusting your work schedule to commute during a less-congested time of day. Adjusting your work schedule means you'll be able to work a schedule that fits your lifestyle.
Research shows that people who have control over their schedules are more motivated and committed, which reduces turnover costs and the risk of employee burnout. By commuting during less congested times of the day, you will reduce commute-related stress and have time to do more of what you love. Learn more about the benefits of adjusting your schedule here.

Use public transit
Hop on TRAX, FrontRunner or the bus to skip your regular commute and use your travel time for something else. Using public transportation saves money on gas, parking and car maintenance. It gives you more time to read, relax, listen to music or work during your travel time. You can arrive at your destination less stressed than those who spend their drive in traffic.

Carpool or vanpool
Save on gas, car maintenance and even parking fees by commuting to work with your coworkers. As an added bonus, more people carpooling or vanpooling means fewer cars on the road, which makes traveling easier for everyone.

Telework
Work from home, a telecenter, the local coffee shop or anywhere that has a wireless Internet connection. Teleworking not only saves time that would otherwise be spent traveling, it also saves you money on gas and parking. By teleworking you also gain increased schedule flexibility while reducing traffic congestion.
