BLUFF, San Juan County — Part of state Route 162 shut down Thursday afternoon when a fuel tanker truck hauling diesel rolled over.
As of about 3 p.m., the highway was shut down between the Cow Canyon Road cut off and just before the Recapture Wash bridge for three or four hours as crews clean up the area, according to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
The fuel tanker truck “lost control” as it was coming down the highway by the Swinging Bridge turn off. Some of the fuel spilled, but crews contained it and stopped the leak, the sheriff’s office reported.
The crews are now waiting for another tanker truck to come and off load the rest of the fuel, the sheriff's office reported.
Residents traveling home can take the U.S. Route 191 and state Route 162 junction in Bluff, the sheriff’s office reported.
