SALT LAKE CITY — A man convicted in a 2013 drive-by shooting in Kearns who then failed to show up for sentencing has been arrested in California.

The Unified Police Department's Metro Gang Unit announced Tuesday that Michael Bonilla, 19, was arrested by U.S. marshals in Sacramento. He had been listed as their most wanted fugitive.

In 2013, Bonilla, who was 17 at the time, was charged along with two others for a drive-by shooting at 4859 W. 4985 South. The group is accused of firing multiple rounds from a shotgun at another man who was playing football in his yard with another adult and three children, ages 10, 8 and 6.

Bonilla, Guillermo Bonilla, 20, and Alberto Chavez, 19, were each charged with six counts of attempted murder with gang enhancements, a first-degree felony; four counts of felony discharge of a firearm, a second-degree felony; and obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.

Michael Bonilla pleaded guilty in October to two counts of attempted murder and two counts of felony discharge of a firearm. A $50,000 arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 8 when he failed to show up for sentencing.
