PROVO — Three people were arrested Wednesday evening after one of them allegedly fired three gunshots at a house, striking the home, a car in the driveway and a window of the home.

Adam Houtz, 29, Cristi Ozuna, 27, and Wilfredo Mattei Jr., 18, approached the residence at 1200 East Birch Lane at 5:00 a.m. and knocked on the door of a basement apartment, according to Lt. Brandon Post with the Provo Police Department.

The residents didn’t recognize the individuals knocking on their door and refused to open it. The three then left, and as they were leaving, Houtz allegedly fired the three shots, Post said.

Detectives found one bullet in the home. The victims told them they did not know the suspects and did not know why they were at their home. They then provided a description of the two suspects they saw at the time, Post said.

Officers located Houtz, Ozuna and Mattei at about 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Houtz ran from the officers, but was apprehended after a short foot chase, Post said.

Detectives learned it is possible one of the victims is “somehow acquainted” with the suspects, and the “confrontation could be over an alleged debt,” Post said.

Ozuna, a Eureka resident, and Mattei, a Salt Lake City resident, were booked into the Utah County Jail in connection with a felony discharge of a firearm. Houtz, a Provo resident, was booked into the Utah County jail for the 18th time. He was booked for felony discharge of a firearm, a restricted person in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, a parole violation and outstanding warrants, Post said.
