TAYLORSVILLE — The fifth annual Taylorsville Urban Cart Dart will be held March 7, offering participants a chance to race in an untraditional way while also donating to charity.

The annual Taylorsville Cart Dart pairs teams of costumed runners with a decorated shopping cart. While pushing their cart, the teams race between challenges in different locations and compete in a variety of unusual contests, according to a Taylorsville city news release.

Past challenges have included rubber chicken launching, playing basketball with your non-dominant hand and operating fire hoses to knock over obstacles. Teams must travel by foot throughout the race, and skateboards, Rollerblades, bicycles and vehicles are not allowed.

Local businesses can sponsor a team, and the proceeds from the race go toward the YMCA Healthy Kids Day, an annual event that demonstrates how kids and their families can be healthy. The event also benefits the local Taylorsville Food Pantry as each registered team must bring food to donate.

Along with benefiting local organizations, the goal of the event, according to the race organizers, is to experience “the most fun you have had with a shopping cart.” Prizes will also be awarded in a number of categories, and teams can win any of five trophies: fastest time, most points, best cart/costume, most enthusiastic and dead last.

Registration is $40 per team, and the race begins March 7 at 10 a.m. Click here to register for the Cart Dart.
