SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for two men after a car slammed into parked cars on a Salt Lake street, leaving behind severe damage and seriously injuring two women.

A vehicle speeding down the hill along 800 South Thursday morning caught air and bounced a number of times before colliding with a parked car near 1000 East, police said.

The car then spun out and hit a couple of other cars. A total of four cars were involved in the crash, and three of them were totaled, police said.

After the last collision, four people inside the car got out and ran, police said. Officers found two women in their late teens or early 20s about an hour later, and they were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

A police sergeant said this is the worst damage he has ever seen on a vehicle. He believed the moving car may have been traveling more than 100 mph.

The parked car that sustained the most damage was in front of a tree. Police said had that car not hit it, the moving car probably would have hit the tree, likely killing all four people inside.

Police think the two men still on the run may have serious injuries.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
