SALINA, Sevier County — A former substitute teacher who works in Sevier County is facing felony charges for alleged sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy.

Mary Emily Mickelsen, 35, of Salina, was charged Jan. 26 in 6th District Court with eight counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony. Sevier County Attorney Dale Eyre said Mickelsen did not meet the boy through her teaching job.

The charges stem from an alleged relationship with one teen, Eyre said. The county attorney's office is investigating whether there are any additional victims.

Sevier County School District Superintendent Cade Douglas said Mickelsen was removed as a substitute teacher in early January once the district learned of the allegations and pending charges. The school district is working with law enforcement, and Mickelsen is not allowed on any school campuses, Douglas said.

Mickelsen has been a substitute teacher in the district for "a number of years," Douglas said.

State court records indicate Mickelsen has no prior criminal history. An initial court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 17.
