BRIGHAM CITY — Two semitrucks on two different sections of roadway rolled Thursday afternoon, spilling milk and beer.

Traffic has been shut down since 12:40 p.m. where the first semitruck rolled at the intersection of 1100 South and Main Street, causing 5,780 gallons of milk to spill onto the roadway.

The truck was traveling downhill and wasn't able to stop at the red light ahead. The 59-year-old driver from Arkansas veered to avoid a collision and rolled, according to witnesses.

Brigham City police said the man was transported from the scene to Brigham City Community Hospital with minor injuries.

The Department of Public Services is on scene to oversee the cleanup of the 4,798 pounds of sweet cream spilled on the roadway, as well as a small diesel leak that was quickly contained.

At this time, state officials are looking at the brakes on the truck to make sure they were functional at the time of the incident. An investigation is also underway to determine whether or not the driver executed the required break check at the top of the summit before heading down.

The second tipped trailer incident closed two right lanes of westbound I-80 near Lamb's Canyon.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said reports of an overturned semitruck hauling a load of beer began around 3:45 p.m.

"Heavy duty crews are on scene and will remain for some time for cleanup," Royce said. "If the container has been breached, then they'll have to offload all of the beer and then upright the semi. If they can upright the semi without that container being compromised, it will be shorter time."

UHP said drivers should anticipate partial to full closures as they work to upright the truck and clean up the spill.

"It will pay off to be patient in that area instead of going around and out Provo Canyon," Royce said.

The driver suffered minor injuries that didn't require medical attention, and officials will continue investigating what may have caused this single-vehicle accident.
