LEHI — A buck was found dead in a field near roads and homes in Lehi and Division of Wildlife Resources officials are seeking the public’s help in locating the poacher.
The 2x2 buck was found near 7800 West and 1630 South near the Mill Pond Road on Jan. 23, according to a DWR news release. A conservation officer responded to the area and determined the buck had been illegally killed with a rifle. The deer was left to waste and DWR said the shooting occurred in an area close to roads, homes and other buildings.
The deer was killed during a “time of year when deer are extremely vulnerable and trying to survive the winter,” the DWR news release said.
In October 2013, two deer were poached near a New Harmony home and officials said the biggest concern when people shoot near residential areas is the public's safety.
Anyone with information about the illegal killing in Lehi can contact the UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available for information leading to the arrests of the poacher, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
