CEDAR CITY — A former member of the Southern Utah University rugby club has pleaded guilty to a sexual assault charge.

Aaron Price, 21, pleaded guilty in November to reduced charges of attempted forcible sexual assault, a third-degree felony, and will begin serving his 180-day jail sentence Friday.

Price was arrested and charged with rape in April 2013 after a woman told police she was raped near SUU's campus. Police say Price carried the woman to a bedroom, held her down and forced her to have sex with him.

After collecting forensic evidence from the scene, police located and interviewed Price. He told officers he forced the woman to have sex, and that she fought him and told him no, court documents state.

Price was sentenced last week to 180 days in jail, with two days credited for the time he was incarcerated when he was arrested, according to court documents. An error in the court docket had perviously indicated the sentence could be served on weekends.

Price was also ordered to register as a sex offender and pay restitution and counseling costs.

At the time of his arrest, Price played wing and flank for the SUU rugby team, a student club recognized by the United States of America Rugby Football Union. He is no longer listed as a member of the team.
