SALT LAKE CITY — Holding signs and waving the American flag, dozens of supporters of law enforcement showed up to a rally Saturday afternoon in front of the downtown Public Safety Building.

Organizers of the event, hosted by the 10-78 Utah Foundation, said it is time for people to voice their support of police in the wake of a spate of officer-involved shootings, both locally and elsewhere in the country, that have stoked criticism of law enforcement.

"We hope that they'll leave with more respect and more understanding; and with these rallies we hope that everybody can have that same respect and know that (police officers) are not as bad as people make them out to be," said Megan Boulton, co-founder of the 10-78 Utah Foundation.

Another rally is scheduled for Jan. 30 at 4 p.m., on the steps of the Utah State Capitol Building. The Foundation is planning a blue balloon release and a candle-light vigil in memory of fallen police officers.
