PHOENIX (AP) — Drivers crossing the Virgin River Gorge in far northwestern Arizona should plan additional time for travel.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says crews are removing rocks on a stretch of Interstate 15 through Jan. 23, leading to 15-minute delays or longer. It's part of a $27 million rehabilitation project for Virgin River Bridge No. 6 that began last March.

Department officials say rolling lane closures are needed to ensure safety of crews and motorists. They're advising drivers to slow down through the work zones and watch out for construction equipment and crews.

The busiest travel times on the roadway are Friday through Sunday. The interstate is the main route between Mesquite, Nevada and St. George, Utah.
