WEST VALLEY CITY — A 3-year-old girl who was submerged in a bathtub for an unknown amount of time Wednesday evening has died.

The girl, who was running a fever, was in the bathtub at her home near Hunter Valley Drive and 7200 West around 5:30 p.m. when her mother went downstairs for an undetermined period of time, according to Roxeanne Vianuku with the West Valley City Police Department.

The girl was believed to be alive when the mother returned to the bathroom, and attempts were made to revive the child at the home and at the hospital before she eventually died, Vianuku said.

The investigation is still ongoing, but nothing appears suspicious, Vianuku said.

"It appears this was a tragic accident," Vianuku said.
