SOUTH JORDAN — A 40-year-old woman was critically injured after she fell from scaffolding outside a four-story building Thursday evening.

The construction worker was working on the exterior stucco at the construction site of Legacy Cottages, 1844 W. South Jordan Parkway (10400 South), about 6 p.m. when she fell between 25 feet and 30 feet, according to South Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Reed Thompson.

As of Friday morning, police had not released information about the woman's condition, her name, or the name of the construction company.

According to the leader of the construction crew, it is unclear whether the woman was trying to come down from the scaffolding or if she slipped and fell, Thompson said.

Other workers were at the site, but it is unclear whether anyone saw the fall, according to Thompson.

By the time crews arrived, the woman had been moved from where she fell, he said. Emergency crews prepared the woman for transport, and she was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and will be investigating the incident.

To prevent additional injury in the case of suspected neck or back injury, Thompson suggested not moving a victim unless they are in immediate danger or there is major bleeding.

"Short of that, it would be best to stabilize the patient as much as possible" until emergency crews arrive, he said.
