LAYTON — A man was transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon after being rescued from a collapsed, 10-foot trench.
The man, 30, was repairing a broken water line in the residential area of Canyon View Drive around 12:49 p.m. when the trench walls collapsed and he became stuck knee-high in mud, according to Layton City Battalion Chief Brad Wilkes.
Urban Search and Rescue, Layton Fire Department and Layton City Public Works extricated the man after about an hour, according to Douglas Bitton with the Layton City Fire Department.
Hill Air Force Base provided heating equipment to prevent hypothermia in the rescuers and the trapped man, Bitton said.
The man did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, but he was transported to the hospital for hypothermia evaluation, Bitton said.
