PROVO — The first babies born along the Wasatch Front in 2015 must love a party. Both were born ahead of schedule.

Little Antonio Martinez, the first child of Antonio Martinez and Bre Fierra, was born at 12:31 a.m. Thursday at the Jordan Valley Medical Center's West Valley campus. He is believed to be the first baby born in 2015 in the Wasatch Front area.

Antonio's due date was Jan. 3, according to hospital spokeswoman Jodi DeJong. His parents were excited when Fierra went into labor at 6 p.m. Wednesday, thinking perhaps he could be a New Year's Day baby, DeJong said.

Gentrie Davis, the second daughter born to Brikki and Austin Davis of Salem, made her debut 14 minutes later at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

The Davis family is in the process of remodeling a home in Eureka, which is where Brikki Davis was when she started going into labor. Gentrie wasn't due until mid-January.

Davis rushed his wife to the hospital in Provo, admitting, "I drove pretty fast but we made it safe."

Brikki Davis said she wasn't even thinking that their baby would be a New Year's baby.

"I was going into this thinking I could have a tax deduction but we missed that. I really didn't think it was going to be New Years after that," she said.

But shortly after Gentrie was born at 12:45 a.m., Brikki Davis said a Utah Valley nurse called the other hospitals in Utah County to find out if they had had any births. The Davises then knew Gentrie, who was 18 inches long and weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces, was the first baby born in Utah County in 2015.

While Austin Davis said the family was not accustomed to the cameras and media attention surrounding their daughter's birth, tiny Gentrie slumbered through her first press conference.

The family will move to their remodeled home in Eureka, where Gentrie will share a bedroom with her 15-month-old sister Gracie.

"We're starting a whole new adventure as soon as we get home. They'll be the best of friends growing up," their mother said.
