WEST VALLEY CITY — A man who allegedly robbed a credit union Tuesday was in custody less than 15 minutes after employees set off a hold-up alarm, police said.
Tyrone Tillman, 50, entered the University Federal Credit Union located at 2752 S. Redwood Road at about 4:33 p.m., according to the West Valley City Police Department. Investigators said he was wearing dark clothing and a mask at the time of the robbery.
Employees triggered the credit union’s alarm when Tillman demanded money from the bank tellers, according to investigators.
Police said Tillman left the credit union in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money. Shortly thereafter, an officer conducted a stop on the vehicle in the Lake Park area, according to police.
“The driver, Tyrone Tillman, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:46 p.m., less than 15 minutes after credit union employees set off the hold-up alarm,” a statement from police reads. “Items of evidence consistent with this robbery were located on Mr. Tillman as well as in his vehicle.”
Tillman was arrested on suspicion of robbing a bank and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, according to police.
