SAN JUAN COUNTY — Three deer were illegally killed in San Juan County and Division of Wildlife Resources officials are asking for the public’s help in locating those responsible.

A DWR officer found the entrails of the three deer on Nov. 23 in a wash between Cross Canyon and Montezuma Canyon, according to a DWR news release. The hide and heads of a doe and fawn were located with the entrails and the third deer was identified as a buck.

DWR officials believe the three deer were shot and killed on Nov. 22 at a different location and were brought to the wash to be field dressed. A large population of deer migrate to the area during the winter months, the news release said.

Anyone with information regarding the illegal killing of these deer can contact the UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available for information leading to the arrests of the poachers, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
