SOUTH JORDAN — With a candle in hand, and flowers placed beside photos of this mother and son- family remember who they were Sunday night.

The 31-year-old mother and her 4-year-old son died in a head-on collision Friday morning after she allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic.

Zaven was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Rashelle Meguerditchian, died several hours later at an area hospital.

"It’s the hard time of year to lose your loved one," said Meguerditchian's sister, Francis Welsh.

Rashelle Meguerditchian was a mother of three. Welsh said she was someone who picked people up when they were down.

"Live life positive, just like Rashelle did. She was the most positive person and she inspired so many people," said Welsh.

She also often brought people together — even now.

Kristen Brewer was a close friend of Rashelle for ten years.

"Bringing us all together unfortunately not in the best situation but just feeling the love and being together and supporting each other,” said Kristin Brewer.

But Raschelle and her family also had their challenges, according to her family. Nick Meguerditchian is Rashelle's brother-in-law.

"They've been going through a hard time for quite sometime. They've been living in a hotel because their house flooded," said Nick Meguerditchian.

Then, the worst came. Friday morning, police said Rashelle was driving on State Route 1-11 when she swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a truck head on.

Her 4-year-old son, Zaven, was in a car seat in the back seat. He died upon impact. Rashelle later died at the hospital.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash, but friends and family are focusing on the message she left behind.

"Live life positive just like Rashelle did. She was the most positive person and she inspired so many people."

"I’m taking her strength that she has and putting it inside my heart and taking it with me for the rest of my life,” said Welsh.
