ST. GEORGE — The live-in girlfriend of a man who died in an officer-involved shooting during an armed robbery was arrested Tuesday, according to the St. George Police Department.

Benjamin Jay Schroff, 37, was shot and killed by police after he took hostages during a Sept. 11 bank robbery and shot at police while fleeing, according to the St. George Police Department. His girlfriend, Elizabeth Holt, was arrested in connection to the robbery Tuesday, police said.

“Investigators found enough evidence to believe Mrs. Holt intentionally aided and encouraged Mr. Schroff in the commission of the robbery, and has gone to lengths to conceal evidence,” a statement from the St. George Police Department reads.

Officers first encountered Holt near a horse corral as they searched a Washington Fields area for Schroff, according to investigators. They said Holt was in a parked vehicle and told officers she was there to feed horses. There was no indication Holt was involved at the time, so officers told her to leave the area after obtaining her information, according to police.

Schroff emerged from bushes located less than 100 feet away from where Holt had been parked about an hour after she left, according to police. Investigators said they later learned of the relationship between Schroff and Holt.

Holt was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and obstruction of justice and booked into the Washington County Jail.
