SALT LAKE CITY — A man whose car rolled multiple times on I-80 Saturday only sustained non life-threatening injuries because he was wearing a seat belt, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety.
The man was driving east on I-80 about nine miles west of the Salt Lake City International Airport when he became involved in a single-vehicle accident at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the DPS. Investigators said the car ultimately came to a stop in the westbound lanes after rolling several times and going through the median.
“The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the lesson the Utah Highway Patrol wants all Utahns to learn is that the driver of the car received only non life-threatening injuries because he was wearing a seat belt,” a statement from the DPS reads. “The seat belt kept the man inside the car, saving his life.”
Rollover accidents are especially dangerous because the forces can “fling everything and everyone outside,” according to the DPS.
