SALT LAKE CITY — Not to brag, but Utah was recently ranked the No. 1 most humble state in America.

HeyLets, a mobile app designed to help people share great, positive experiences in their cities, decided to rank the country based on each state’s self-promotional habits on social media. In other words, researchers wanted to see how each state ranked according to its residents' status updates that informed the cyber world of how awesome their life is.

To analyze the country’s self-promotional habits, the researchers asked 2,500 Americans who are active on social media to rate the number of posts they make based on certain self-promotional topics such as vacations to special places, attendance at memorable events and work-related good news.

HeyLets found Utah to be America’s most humble state, with just 22 percent of its residents who participate on social media to be what they call “braggadocious.”

Shown below is a list of the nation’s top 20 most humble states and the top 20 most boastful states. The average percentage of residents who self-promote on social media is shown in parenthesis.
