SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man who claims he was robbed and pistol-whipped by three women and two men was taken to the hospital Sunday.

South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller said a passerby spotted the 34-year-old man in an alley near 2700 South and Adams Street (430 East). Because of the blood trail, the passerby thought the man had been in an auto-pedestrian accident and called 911, Keller said.

When police arrived, the man, from Salt Lake City, was coherent but was transported to a local hospital to be treated for "head lacerations," he said.

The man told police that about 4 p.m. he was walking near 200 East and 3900 South when a car with three women pulled up, according to Keller. The women convinced the man to get in the car. At least one of the women allegedly had a gun, the man told police, though Keller said he did not believe a gun was actually pointed at the alleged victim.

The women drove the man to the nearby alley where "there's two guys in another car waiting," Keller said.

There, the men allegedly pistol-whipped the victim and took his backpack and computer bag before leaving, according to police.

Investigators were still collecting descriptions of the five alleged suspects Sunday night.
