OREM — A Utah Highway Patrol car was hit as troopers were stopped to help drivers Wednesday night, the fourth accident of its kind in 10 days.

The two troopers were helping to clear four crashes at the Orem Center Street exit of southbound I-15 about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday when a Ford Escape braking for slowed traffic hit another vehicle and hit the driver's side of the UHP cruiser, Utah Highway Patrol Col. Danny Fuhr reported.

Two UHP troopers, who were out of the car helping the stranded drivers, managed to jump out of the way in time. The driver of the Escape was not injured.

"We are all very concerned about the safety of our troopers, and we need the public to help us keep them safe by slowing down when they see red and blue lights," Fuhr said in a news release Wednesday.

Multiple police units and a large Utah Department of Transportation truck were providing traffic control with emergency lights activated at the time of the accident, Fuhr added.

Three other UHP vehicles were hit by drivers traveling too fast in inclement weather in the past 10 days, UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said. No injuries were reported in those crashes.
