SALT LAKE CITY — Police are seeking the public's help in locating a man who they say robbed a credit union Tuesday evening using a gun and an improvised explosive device.

The armed man approached a manager who was leaving the University Federal Credit Union, 490 E. 500 South, shortly after 6 p.m., said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones. The IED was made of wires coming from what looked like two small propane cylinders, bound together.

The gunman forced the manager back inside the building and demanded cash from employees who were closing the building for the night, Jones said. He fled the scene on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police described the man as 6 feet tall, weighing about 180 pounds, wearing dark pants, an olive green hoodie, a green ski mask, glasses underneath and heavy gloves. Police say he should be considered armed, dangerous and possibly still in possession of the explosive device.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 801-799-3000 and refer to case number 14-202029.
