COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A former nanny convicted of intentionally injuring two children was sentenced Monday to six months in jail.

Traci Omer, 22, pleaded guilty in August in 3rd District Court to reckless child abuse resulting in serious injury, a third-degree felony.

From Feb. 19 to July 11, 2013, Omer was the nanny to two children, then ages 1 and 2, in a Cottonwood Heights neighborhood. She was fired in July of that year after the parents noticed unexplained scratches on their children. On Aug. 24, Omer sent a letter to the family admitting that the 1-year-old had not been safe in her care, according to police.

On Monday, she was ordered to immediately begin serving six months in the Salt Lake County Jail followed by three years of probation, according to court records. She was also ordered to complete a mental health evaluation and complete any recommended treatment, and perform 200 hours of community service. Omer was also ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children.

Utah state court records show Omer has no other criminal history in Utah.
