OGDEN — A Weber County man who used an alias and supervised teens in his church congregation while he was on the state's sex offender registry was arrested for investigation of felony charges, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office.

Adam Wolfe was arrested on two counts of allegedly violating the sex offender registry, both third-degree felonies. He was arrested Oct. 27, the culmination of an investigation by the sheriff's office. He was released from jail after securing $10,000 bail.

Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay said the man legally changed his name from David Mitchell Blackner in 2011 after he was no longer required to register with the state sex offender registry for a previous conviction.

But Blackner apparently began using the alias Adam Wolfe as early as 2007, which was during the 10-year period he was required to comply with the conditions of the sex offender registry.

That same year, he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, police said. Wolfe, as he called himself, attained leadership positions in a Washington Terrace ward and began working with teens in 2008 as part of his church responsibilities, Findlay said.

Using an alias violates the conditions of the sex offender registry, Findlay said. Failing to disclose his volunteer work involving children was another violation, he said.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office is not aware of any victims related to Wolfe's deception, but it is has released his mug shot to the public in case anyone has other information, Findlay said. Anyone with information is asked to call 801-778-6639.
