SALT LAKE CITY — Utah quarterback Kendal Thompson and wide receiver Tim Patrick will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining injuries in Utah's 51-27 loss to Oregon, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said.
Thompson, who earned the starting job for the Oregon game, injured his knee on Utah's second drive of the game. Thompson attempted a pass to Patrick during that drive before falling to the ground in pain and needing medical attention, but Whittingham didn't know exactly what play Thompson got hurt.
Thompson lead a successful first drive of the game in a creative offensive scheme, giving Utah an early 7-0 lead on an 8-yard pass to running back Bubba Poole.
Junior quarterback Travis Wilson replaced Thompson and brought Utah within 3 points of Oregon in the fourth quarter before Oregon scored 21 unanswered points.
Patrick sustained a leg injury in the second half of the game in the north end zone. The game was delayed for some time as the medical staff put Patrick in an air cast before being carted off the field.
Patrick is the second Utah receiver to sustain a season-ending injury this season. Following Utah's game against USC, Utah's medical staff discovered an injury to senior Dres Anderson, forcing Anderson to miss the remainder of the season.
Thompson finishes the season rushing for 192 yards and one touchdown and throwing for 324 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Patrick ends with 177 yards on 16 receptions.
