CLEARFIELD — At 8 years old, Adyn Wilkinson doesn't make too many phone calls. However, the phone call he made on Oct. 31 might be the most important one he will ever make.

Wilkinson has always known his grandmother has diabetes. But after his grandfather — who suffered from Type 1 diabetes — died of a heart attack, Wilkinson decided he wanted to learn how to save his grandmother.

He knew how to recognize the signs.

“She kept saying the same stuff over and over and her eyes were dilated,” Wilkinson said.

When he saw that his grandmother wasn’t responding, he knew exactly what to do.

“They told me to call 911 and unlock all the doors,” Wilkinson said.

Which is exactly what he did and why he's being called a hero.

“My daughter has told him, and I’ve told him, if I don’t respond then he needs to do what he needs to do,” said Jane Arambula, Wilkinson's grandmother.

Arambula now is doing well.

“I felt good that my nanna got better and she wasn’t acting crazy anymore,” Wilkinson said.

“He is my hero and I don’t know what I would do without him. I believe he saved my life. Yes,” Arambula said.
