SOUTH SALT LAKE — An 18-year-old man who police say used red and blue LED lights to pull over another vehicle was arrested for investigation of impersonating a police officer.

On Tuesday, two men in a black Jeep pulled a vehicle over near 600 West and 3900 South, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. The Jeep had "no soliciting" and "K-9" stickers on it as well as "Carfax type paper" where the license plate usually goes, the report stated.

"The vehicle had very small red and blue lights in the front windshield which were used to pull them over," the report stated.

A man in an Army-like jacket asked the driver whom he had just pulled over for insurance information, according to the report. The driver, in return, asked for the alleged officer's credentials.

The two men went back to their Jeep while one of the occupants of the pulled-over vehicle followed them, demanding ID, the report stated. The two alleged officers then drove away.

On Wednesday, a South Salt Lake officer spotted a Jeep that matched the description given by the people who were pulled over. The officer pulled the vehicle over and, after receiving permission from the driver to search it, found small LED red and blue lights, the report stated, and an Army-like jacket.

Hassan Falek Al-Atawna, 18, was arrested for investigation of impersonating a police officer. The search for his accomplice continued Thursday. Al-Atawna was charged Thursday in South Salt Lake Justice Court with an identical charge, a class B misdemeanor.

Court records show Al-Atawna also had warrants out for his arrest for failing to appear in court on several misdemeanor traffic violations.
