WILLARD, Box Elder County — Two teens involved in a rollover crash Friday night, one killed and another hospitalized, have been identified.

Candice Wines, 17, of Garland, was headed south on I-15 when her truck drifted into the median, the Utah Highway Patrol reported. Wines overcorrected back onto the pavement and was ejected when the pickup rolled.

She was taken from the scene by medical helicopter in extremely critical condition and later died of her injuries.

Lander Kern, 18, of Bothwell, was injured when he was thrown into the back seat as the car rolled. Kern was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was treated and later released.

UHP troopers estimated the vehicle rolled about 50 feet. The teens were not wearing seat belts.

The crash, which happened about 6:30 p.m., shut down both lanes of southbound I-15 as Willard as police made space for the medical helicopter to land and began to clear the wreckage.

Traffic was diverted onto U.S. 89 for about 3 miles until the freeway reopened.
